With the popularity of mixed martial arts growing and showing no sign of slowing down it is time for Ontario to join the other provinces and states in legalizing this great sport. Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says that he has more important things to do and that legalizing MMA is not a priority. Well, I understand that the economy is still hurting and he is trying to fix it but I don't think he realizes just how much income MMA can generate for Ontario. When the UFC came to Montreal last year 40% of the tickets were purchased from Ontario residents. Imagine if they held events in Toronto and other MMA promotions were able to come to Ontario. This would generate large amounts of income and increase employment opportunities. The Ontario government needs to act on this as quickly as possible and take full advantage while they can. The large companies like the UFC are spreading world wide and if Ontario waits too long, they might find themselves without an annual spot in the UFC rotation.
